This classic Rhossili Bay loop (roughly 10 km / 6.5 miles) combines the sweeping sands of Rhossili, elevated ridge views from Rhossili Down, and dramatic coastal cliffs past Worm’s Head and Fall Bay. It’s a moderate but richly varied walk across beach, moorland, farmland, and clifftops.
From start to finish, this loop captures the essence of the Gower Peninsula’s wild beauty. Whether you’re taking in panoramic views from the Beacon, spotting seabirds along rugged cliff paths, or walking barefoot on one of Britain’s best beaches, every stretch of the route offers something memorable. It’s the kind of walk that feels like several rolled into one, perfect for a rewarding half-day adventure.

Hike Description
Begin at the National Trust car park in Rhossili village. Head past St Mary’s Church and climb steeply up to Rhossili Down, where you’re rewarded with sweeping views across the bay and out to Worm’s Head.
From the Beacon trig point, follow the coastal path east along the high cliffs, keeping an eye out for peregrines, choughs, and perhaps wild ponies grazing on the moorland.
Once you reach the sand, stroll south along the 3-mile bay toward Hillend, crossing its wide sands. From Hillend, you can head back inland, but we prefferd to walk the whole length of the beach before climbing back near the car park to join the high clifftop path heading towards Kitchen Corner.
We followed the coast around the other side above Fall Bay, before returning to your starting point through farmland and the restored medieval strip fields known as the Vile.
