I switched from EE to Ecotalk, kept my number and still use it. Here is my honest experience of its coverage, mobile data, plans and environmental mission.

I’ll start with the short answer: I am still using Ecotalk and have been very happy with it. I moved from EE, kept the same phone number and found the everyday service very similar. Coverage has been excellent in cities and works well across much of the Bannau Brycheiniog (Brecon Beacons), although as you would expect it can disappear in very remote places and deep valleys.
I originally discovered Ecotalk through an Instagram advert explaining that it uses its profits to help restore nature. I was sceptical enough to investigate it, but liked what I found. Chris Packham was involved as Chief Ecologist, the service used the EE network I was already using, and I could switch and keep my number.
Ecotalk review: my quick verdict
My verdict: Ecotalk is an excellent option for somebody who wants a competitively priced SIM-only plan on the EE network while helping fund nature restoration in Britain. My signal has been comparable to my previous EE service, switching was straightforward, and I have had no reason to leave.
- Network: Ecotalk uses EE’s mobile network.
- My experience: very good in cities and generally good on my walks, including much of the Brecon Beacons.
- Weak spots: very remote terrain and deep valleys can still lose signal.
- Contract: current plans are offered on 30-day rolling terms.
- Price rises: Ecotalk currently promises no annual price increases.
- Customer service: UK-based support is advertised, but I have not needed to contact it personally.
- Best for: UK users who value EE coverage, flexible SIM-only plans and environmental action.
What network does Ecotalk use?
Ecotalk uses the EE network to provide its mobile service. Ecotalk is the provider you pay and deal with, while your calls, texts and mobile data use EE’s underlying network infrastructure. Ecotalk’s own network-checker page directs customers to EE’s coverage checker.
That mattered to me because I was already an EE customer. Moving to Ecotalk did not mean gambling on an unfamiliar network: I expected broadly similar coverage and that is what I have experienced. Nevertheless, coverage varies by location, phone and terrain, so check your home, workplace and regular destinations using the Ecotalk network checker before switching.
Ecotalk coverage: my experience in cities and the countryside
In towns and cities, my Ecotalk coverage has been very good. For everyday calls, messages and mobile data, I have not noticed a meaningful loss compared with being directly with EE.
I also use my phone while walking in rural South Wales. Across much of the Brecon Beacons, Ecotalk works well enough for the normal things I need. Mobile data has generally been fine, and I have found coverage about as reliable as I would reasonably expect in mountain country.
It is not magic, though. When I travel into a very remote area or descend into a valley surrounded by high ground, the signal can weaken or disappear. That is normal for mountain environments and is why I never rely solely on a mobile connection for navigation or emergencies. I download maps and GPX routes before setting off.
Ecotalk pros and cons

- I cannot personally assess customer service because I have not needed it
- Roaming rules and charges should be checked before travelling
- Introductory data offers can change, so always verify the live deal
- Coverage should be checked for your own postcode and regular journeys
How I switched from EE to Ecotalk
I was out of contract with EE, so I texted PAC to 65075 and received my switching code. I chose an Ecotalk plan, entered the PAC during the process and waited for the change to complete. I kept the same phone and telephone number, so my contacts, accounts and two-factor authentication continued as normal.
There was no need to visit a shop or buy another handset. Ecotalk says a new SIM is normally posted by Royal Mail within three working days, after which it can be activated. Switching arrangements can vary, so follow the current instructions provided during signup.
Ecotalk plans and prices
I joined a 30GB plan costing £12 per month and remain on that plan. It was the available deal when I switched, so it should be treated as my existing arrangement rather than a promise that new customers can receive the same allowance today.

At the time of this update, Ecotalk is also advertising 100GB for £12 per month for the first three months when switching, described as 100GB for the price of its 10GB plan. Check what the allowance and price become after the promotional period before ordering.
Does Ecotalk have 5G?
Ecotalk currently advertises 5G as standard. I have used mobile data without problems in areas where coverage is available, including while travelling and on many walks. Actual speeds depend on the handset, congestion, local network availability and terrain, so nobody should expect the same result everywhere.
What is Ecotalk customer service like?
Ecotalk advertises UK-based support from its team in Gloucestershire by telephone and email, with human support rather than chatbots and automated voices. I cannot give you a personal assessment of how quickly or effectively it resolves problems because I have not needed to contact the team. That is positive in one sense—the service has simply worked—but it would be misleading for me to review support I have never used.
Can you use Ecotalk abroad?
Do not assume that UK allowances, roaming destinations or charges will remain unchanged. I have not tested Ecotalk roaming sufficiently to offer a personal verdict. Check Ecotalk’s current roaming and price information before travelling, particularly if you plan to use large amounts of data or visit several countries.
How does Ecotalk help nature?
Ecotalk describes its model as “not for dividend”. Instead of distributing profits to shareholders through dividends, it says the money it makes supports its environmental mission. Its projects include reintroducing, rewilding and replanting at Bowyers Wood in East Sussex and restoring wet meadow and woodland habitats at Downicary in Devon.
That was the distinction that originally caught my attention. A phone service is something many of us pay for every month anyway; with Ecotalk, the aim is for that spending to contribute to restoring British wildlife and habitats without requiring customers to sacrifice normal mobile service.
Who is Ecotalk best for?
- People who already know that EE coverage works well where they live
- Customers seeking a flexible SIM-only plan instead of a long handset contract
- People frustrated by annual mid-contract price increases
- Walkers and travellers who want reliable mainstream-network coverage without abandoning their environmental values
- Anybody who wants their monthly mobile bill to help fund nature restoration
It may be less suitable if EE coverage is weak in your home or workplace, if you need a handset bundled into the contract, or if another provider offers a specialist feature that Ecotalk does not. The environmental mission is important, but the practical service still has to suit your individual needs.
Is Ecotalk worth switching to?
For me, yes. I switched from EE, kept my number, retained the coverage I expected and continue to use Ecotalk. It works very well in cities and has performed well across much of the rural terrain where I walk. Its limitations in remote valleys are realistic limitations of mobile coverage, not a reason for me to leave.
The combination of EE network access, flexible monthly plans and a business model that supports nature makes Ecotalk easy for me to recommend considering. Check coverage and the current deal for yourself, but my experience after making the switch has been positive.
