Balmers Hostel, let’s get straight in there with a link to their website, and this is where you can book your stay. It’s very easy, and whilst you’re on the site, you will get a taste for what will be a fantastic stay at what has to be one of the best hostels in the world.
Balmers Hostel is based in Interlaken, which to me felt like a holding town for all the hikers, mountaineers, skiiers, climbers and so on. There so many other sports you can do, so, this town is ideal as locally there are over 45 mountain railways, cable cars, chair lifts and ski lifts which lead to 200 kilometers of pistes and a dense network of hiking trails. Excursion ships, including historic paddle steamers, can be seen on Lake Thun and Lake Brienz, literally separating Interlaken.
Balmers is the first private hostel in Switzerland and truly is a home away from home for travellers from all over the world! The staff are friendly and knowlegable, and they really do make an effort to provide travellers with everything they need in a hostel and more!
What Rooms Are Available:
The rooms are very clean, have a sink, mirror, handbasin, and good lighting and the beds are pretty comfy, I just would have liked thicker pillows, but next time I travel I have a blow up pillow of my own, so no worries.
The shared toilets and showers are also very clean, all convenient, and are well used at all hours, so my next tip is to take a good eye mask with you and some ear plugs. It’s to be expected, it is a Hostel, but you will help yourself with these two items.
On the second night stay, I walked from Lauterbrunnen back to Interlaken and stopped by a small shopping centre, picked up some food for my evening meal and breakfast and this really is a good thing to do, the meals and drinks in Switzerland are expensive, please take this advice and think ahead with your meals and drinks.
The place is very chilled out, very cosy, very friendly, it’s not a youth club so please do your best to look after the place, i.e., clean up after yourself, respect the other guests there and try and keep the noise down. I will be going back and using Balmers again, and forgot to say on the second night I had my own room, which was great, but obviously costs dictate.
Overall, I loved the place and can’t fault it.

Experience the breath-taking Jungfrau Region with my 3 day circular, taking in Interlaken, Grindelwald & Lauterbrunnen.
It was so good, I visited this region twice in 1 year, the second time I took a group of friends with me.
