The Snowdon Ranger Path is one of the most underrated ways up Yr Wyddfa (Snowdon). Itโs quieter than the main routes, more gradual than the Watkin Path, but you still get what you came here for, the mountains and the views and the challenge. Starting near Llyn Cwellyn, it builds steadily before opening into wide views and joining the final push to the summit. If you want a solid all-rounder without the crowds, this is a great choice.
I have all the routes up to Yr Wyddfa in one page, you can use this Yr Wyddfa (Snowden) Pillar Page to tick off your summits, work out Start Points and download GPX files, and you also get great Accommodation ideas for families, couples and solo travellers.

Hike Description
The walk starts near Llyn Cwellyn, one of the nicest settings of any Snowdon route. Right from the beginning, youโre away from the crowds and into open ground, with the mountain rising steadily ahead.

The path climbs gradually at first, making it easy to find a rhythm. Itโs not as busy as the main routes, and that quieter feel sticks with you for most of the ascent.

As you gain height, the views open up across Snowdonia, and the route begins to feel more like a classic mountain path, steady, consistent, and rewarding without being overly tough.

Higher up, you reach the ridge section before joining the main routes near Bwlch Glas, where things get busier again. The final push to the summit is shared with other paths, but itโs short and straightforward.

At the summit of Yr Wyddfa (Snowdon), you get the full reward โ wide views across the national park and beyond.

The descent follows the same route back down, giving you time to enjoy the quieter surroundings again as you drop back towards Llyn Cwellyn.
Places to Stay

For more options, nearby Beddgelert is a brilliant base with pubs, cafรฉs, and access to multiple routes. Caernarfon is another good option if you want more choice, shops, and easy access across Snowdonia.
