Kayak Lysefjord is one of the best experiences of my life, to be kayaking on a fjord in Norway is something I’d always wanted to do. So, before we left we hired six 2 man canoes with Nordic Paddling on the ‘Kayak Lysefjord – 3-hour’ tour.
The tour is perfect for anyone looking to experience what kayaking on a Norwegian fjord is like. Kayaking Lysefjord is in my opinion one of the best experiences you can have in the area. You pass by beautiful granite gorges, and waterfalls, and cross the deep but calm fjord, it’s an amazing experience.

Description & Pics
Before you head to the water the guide will supply you with all the kayaking equipment (double kayak, paddle, vest, splash jacket and pants), and then you will get a safety briefing from the professional guide.
Then it’s time to set off on your kayak journey across the Lysefjord, guided by the Nordic Paddling professional, and if like us you haven’t done it before, it takes a bit of time to sync your paddling up with your partner and get the rudder working correctly, but once you get going it’s a smooth paddle up the one side of the Fjord, before crossing over to the other side.
The fjord was very calm, only disturbed by the tourist power boats and large ferry’s going up and down, but it’s very safe and going over the very small waves they produce is a bit of fun. We paddled up the fjord for a little while, and we even got to kayak in a little rainstorm which was great fun, and felt exciting.
Then we crossed over to the other side and started to make our way back down the fjord. The views are unbelievable, you can paddle right up close to the rock face, look up and the days before we were kayaking up there and looking down.
On the other side of the fjord, we paddled into a cove and right up to the little stone beach in there. There is some fantastic history in relation to these coves, and the guide told us all about it and when we looked up, we realised that the day before we were standing on the large rock that sticks out above us.
The 3 hours pass very quickly, and all we had to do was paddle a little further down and then cross back over the fjord to return to the start point. We loved every second of our kayak adventure with Nordic Paddling, and can highly recommend the 3 hour tour.
That’s it, you’re all done, and I hope you have had a great experience, and have had great weather.
