Best Hikes in San Candido, a brilliant Hiking Base in the Dolomites, Italy.

San Candido (Innichen) is one of the best little bases for the eastern Dolomites, it has great alpine-town vibes, and has everything set up for walkers. You’ve got cafés, bakeries, decent hotels, and easy transport links, and you’re only a short hop from the big-hitter valleys like Val Fiscalina (Fischleintal) and the Tre Cime area. It’s a real mountain town where people actually live year-round.

The scenery around here is classic Dolomites, just with a slightly wilder edge, huge pale limestone faces, long green valleys, and those dark pine forests that make the peaks look even more dramatic when they pop into view. The best bit is how quickly you can go from “morning coffee in town” to “proper mountain day” trails, huts, and viewpoints are all within easy reach.
