Welsh Man Walking

If you are thinking about switching to Ecotalk, this guide explains the practical side: choosing a SIM-only plan, using an eSIM, keeping your existing number and activating your new service. I made the switch myself using an eSIM and transferred my old number across, so I can take you through what actually happened rather than simply repeating the sales page.

My own experience was refreshingly straightforward. I chose my plan, downloaded the eSIM profile using the QR code, followed the prompts and transferred my existing number. I now use the online account area to check my contract details and make sure everything is set up correctly.

Ecotalk plans and prices

Plans checked on 15 September 2026: Ecotalk was displaying the following 30-day rolling SIM-only plans. Prices and promotions can change, so always check the live Ecotalk page before ordering.

PlanMonthly price shownCalls and texts
10GB data£12Unlimited UK minutes and messages
30GB data£14Unlimited UK minutes and messages
Unlimited data£22 normally; £11 first month when checkedUnlimited UK minutes and messages

I use an unlimited plan, so I have never needed to buy extra data. Pick the allowance that matches how you actually use your phone rather than paying for data you will never touch. If you use mapping apps, stream video or regularly tether another device, a larger allowance may make sense.

There is currently no exclusive Welsh Man Walking discount code or cashback offer. My affiliate link takes you to Ecotalk’s live deals page, where you can see any public offer available at the time.

How to switch to Ecotalk

  1. Check coverage and phone compatibility. Make sure the network suits the places where you normally live, work and travel. If you want an eSIM, confirm that your phone supports one.
  2. Choose a plan. Compare the current data allowances and prices on Ecotalk’s deals page.
  3. Choose a physical SIM or eSIM. An eSIM avoids waiting for a plastic SIM to arrive, but it must be supported by your phone.
  4. Place the order. Enter the requested personal and payment details carefully.
  5. Install or insert the SIM. I scanned the supplied QR code to download my eSIM profile and followed the prompts on my phone.
  6. Activate the service. Follow the instructions Ecotalk sends with your order and check calls, messages and mobile data.
  7. Transfer your existing number if required. Request a PAC from your old provider and give it to Ecotalk through the method specified in your switching instructions.
  8. Check your online account. Once everything is live, review your plan and contract details and make sure the setup is correct.

My Ecotalk eSIM setup experience

I chose an eSIM rather than a physical card. I downloaded the eSIM profile using the QR code supplied to me and then followed the prompts on the phone. It was very easy, and there was no fiddly plastic SIM to swap.

An eSIM is a digital version of the SIM profile that connects your phone to the mobile network. Before ordering one, check your handset’s specifications and make sure it is unlocked and eSIM-compatible. Keep the setup email or QR instructions available on another screen while installing it, because you may need your phone camera to scan the code.

If your phone does not support eSIM—or you simply prefer a familiar option—a physical SIM is still perfectly sensible. Ecotalk states that physical SIMs are sent by Royal Mail and then activated after arrival.

Can you keep your current mobile number?

Yes. I transferred my existing number to Ecotalk rather than starting again with a new one. To move a UK mobile number, you normally request a PAC from your old network and submit it as part of the transfer process. Follow the current Ecotalk instructions and do not cancel the old mobile service separately before the transfer unless your providers tell you to.

It is sensible to start the transfer when you can tolerate a short interruption, just in case. After the move, test an incoming and outgoing call, send a message and turn Wi-Fi off briefly to check mobile data.

Activation and the Ecotalk account area

Once my eSIM was installed, I followed the activation prompts and checked that the service worked. I have since used the Ecotalk online account area to view my contract details and confirm that everything is set up correctly.

If something does not work immediately, check that the new line is enabled in your phone settings and selected for mobile data. Restarting the phone after installation can also help. For device-specific or account-specific problems, use Ecotalk’s current support instructions rather than deleting the eSIM profile, as removing it prematurely may complicate the setup.

Can you buy more data?

I have never needed to add data because I use an unlimited plan. If you are on a capped allowance and begin running low, check your Ecotalk account or contact its support team for the current options. Prices and account controls can change, so I would rather point you to the live information than publish an amount here that may soon become outdated.

Is Ecotalk offering a discount or cashback?

Not through Welsh Man Walking at the moment. There is no WMW code, special cashback rate or hidden discount attached to my link. Ecotalk sometimes changes the public offers shown on its website, so the button below goes directly to the current deals rather than promising an expired promotion.

Why I switched

Ecotalk says it uses the money it makes from mobile services to support nature restoration in Britain. That appealed to me because Welsh Man Walking is built around spending time outdoors and respecting the places I walk through. The practical side still had to work, though; an ethical idea is not much use if the phone service or switching process lets you down.

This page is deliberately about joining and setting up Ecotalk. For my longer-term experience of coverage, signal in towns and rural areas, the underlying network and whether I think the service is any good, read my separate honest Ecotalk review.

Who might Ecotalk suit?

  • Someone who wants a flexible 30-day SIM-only plan.
  • Someone who would prefer a provider that supports British nature projects.
  • Someone with an eSIM-compatible phone who wants a simple digital setup.
  • Someone who wants to keep an existing UK mobile number.
  • Someone who prefers checking the live price instead of being tied to an old promotional graphic.

Before switching, check coverage in the places that matter to you and compare the full plan terms with your current arrangement. My experience has been positive, but your location, handset and data use may be different from mine.
