The Bath City Circular Walk is a relaxed 5km trail through one of Britain’s most beautiful and historically rich cities. With Georgian architecture, Roman ruins, elegant crescents, and sweeping park views, this self-guided route is perfect for first-time visitors or return explorers.

You’ll wander through honey-coloured stone streets, pass the famous Roman Baths (tickets available here), admire the grand Royal Crescent, and enjoy riverside and hilltop views that make Bath such a joy to explore on foot.

Hike Description

This loop starts and ends at Bath Abbey — a perfect central location surrounded by cafes and Roman history. From here, you’ll head through the most picturesque corners of Bath:

  • Bath Abbey & Roman Baths Begin in the heart of the city where the Romans built their famous thermal complex.
  • Pulteney Bridge – Cross this elegant, shop-lined bridge and enjoy views of the weir and River Avon.
  • Sydney Gardens – A peaceful green space that once welcomed Jane Austen and other Georgian high society.
  • The Circus – A stunning architectural circle of townhouses designed by John Wood the Elder.
  • Royal Crescent – Bath’s most iconic row of terraced houses with sweeping views over Royal Victoria Park.
  • Royal Victoria Park – Loop through the landscaped grounds for city views and open space.
  • Queen Square & Milsom Street – Return via this stylish shopping district and classic Georgian square.

This city walk shows Bath at its best — timeless, elegant, and easy to explore. Whether you’re here for the history, the architecture, or just a scenic stroll with a pasty or cream tea in hand, it’s a walk to remember.
